Writing goals – myth or mastery?

Oh me, oh my! How time flies!

I have been a member of ROSA (Romance Writing Organisation of South Africa) for years – and it has always been these people who have spurred me on in my writing endeavours. Once again, it is this organisation which has forced me out of my shell and back into the wide, wide world.

How does this relate to writing goals, you might ask? By compelling me to participate in events at which I need books to sell! My writing goals have always been a myth but perhaps it is time to take mastery into account. How do authors manage to publish multiple books? And there is only ONE answer to that – by sitting down and doing the work.

I have used a lack of funds as an excuse to stop me from achieving any goals I might have written in my diary. To compensate for that, I have taken on proofreading and book layout work through my business, Tango With Text, to earn the money necessary to fund my writing.

The downside is the work keeps rolling in, because that is what I asked for. And I’m a firm believer in the saying ‘you get what you ask the Universe for’. The next question you might be asking is, “Have you used the money you earned through your business to pay for things like editors and cover designers?” What do you think the answer to that is?

And you’d be right. I’ve used the money to fund my crafting habit, not my story telling career.

Where does this leave me? In the land of limbo – do I keep taking on jobs or do I focus on writing? A question I am unable to answer at this time. However, a decision must be made for nothing changes until you make a choice.
